It seems every other month we have a holiday that means I have to give my kids lots of candy and chocolate. I've decided this Easter to limit the candy to just a few pieces, but give them some useful gifts instead in their baskets.
My girls are taking swimming lessons right now, so I'm putting together "swim" baskets that contain swim goggles, paddle boards, flippers and all sorts of fun things. This will encourage activity and play instead of candy, candy, candy.
Here are some more fun non-candy ideas:
-- Anything personalized: personalized towels, cups, t-shirts, stickers...
-- Outdoor activities: sidewalk chalk, bubbles, bouncy balls, jump rope, hula hoop
-- Easter crafts: a wooden bird house to paint is sure cute!
-- Personal activity (whatever your child is currently doing). For example, if your child is playing soccer, you can do a "soccer" basket or if you child is taking horseback riding lessons, you can do a "western" theme.
-- Art supplies: crayons, paper, stickers, glue stick, glitter in spring colors
-- Little garden: flower pot, soil, seeds, watering can
-- Bath time fun: rubber ducky (very spring), bath bubbles, cute ducky towel
-- Beach party: sand buckets and shovels, beach towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuits
-- Purse (instead of basket) filled with: jewelry, charms, make-up, notepads, pens, wallet
-- Entertainment: a basket full of books, videos and CDs
Kids don't need to have tons of candy each holiday. Let's think outside the basket!
