No More Nighttime Props!

My doctor recommended this to me a year ago (don't ask why I didn't try it until just recently). He suggested that if you want your child to sleep through the night, you need to eliminate any "props" that help a child fall asleep. For my almost 2-year old, it was a simple bottle before bedtime. I didn't really think it was a big deal, but he would wake up at least once during the night. Within a week of taking away his end of the day bottle, he slept all night! My husband claims it was just chance, but I know better!

This is very interesting, I have never heard of this. Did your doctor give any explanation to why "props" are a hindrance to a child's sleep?

I think it is because they need to learn to fall asleep without assistance. If your child falls asleep with the bottle and wakes up in the middle of the night--he can't get back to sleep if the bottle is empty.
