When the weather begins to turn wonderful, outside is the only place you want to be. That is hampered by the grass and weeds that seem to be growing everywhere they shouldn't. And then that little perfect mother voice says: "You should get this perfect looking," "Where is your self respect?" "Don't you love your home?" Then you begin the guilt and beating yourself, because your house doesn't look anything like the neighbor's...it looks more like an episode of Desperate Landscapes.
First this is your ego...Remember a weed is only a plant whose usefulness has not been discovered yet.
Second make a plan. I plan not my chores, but my time. I get up and say the first three hours will be housework; then I get to go outside for a few hours and get that done. Sometimes my outside time is spent wandering around looking at what I need to do and just ENJOYING being outside in MY yard and garden. Sometimes I am Miss Worker Bee, but I enjoy it every time, because I control my life and time (not the weeds, housework or my family). Believe me, it will be there and remain there. Mothers need to realize they are the masters of their own ship; do not be tossed two and fro by the green grasses or the laundry.
Third, your children think Dandelions make wonderful flower arrangements. AND they are great in salads. :)
Love your spring and summer. Don't waste it feeling guilty. They only come around once a year.
