Surviving the Difficult Odds

ceoMom 650, Yvette

When I was six weeks pregnant with my second child, I was held up at gun point and robbed. I wondered about this child who had survived such violence before being born and then when I was six months pregnant, my husband of 10 years walked out. Although our marriage had not always been happy, I had never expected him to leave like that. Again I wondered what do I tell a child that had experienced so much before they were even born.

A year later and about to celebrate my baby's first birthday, I know what I will tell her. I have loved her from the moment I knew she existed and no amount of heartbreak or violence could stamp that out. My life is hard and often I feel like giving up, but then I cuddle my baby and remember what is important.

You can do this and be the best mother for your child. We are all perfectly equipped to be the mothers our children need -- never forget. And when the fear sets in, remember to breathe and take it one step at a time until you feel the fear subside and calm return. All the best on this always difficult but always worth it journey of raising a child on your own.
