As a preschool teacher, I too frequently ask the question: "Is it a cold or are we dealing with allergies?" Here are some helpful hints to know if your child should have a play date:
Colds/Flu: Nose discharge is yellow or green
Allergies: Nose discharge is clear
Colds/Flu: Fever, soar throat, temperature of 100 degrees F or more, deep cough, headache, muscle ache
Allergies: There is sometimes a light inconsistent cough
Keep your child/children away from a playmate who has any of the cold/flu symptoms and is free from fever (100 degrees F or higher) for at least 24 hours.
