Cast Iron Pots and Pans

Buy cast iron pots and pans! Best investment you will make. Honestly they aren't a lot of work once you get use to them. Don't wash with soap; just wash in water once the pan is warm with a rag. You're supposed to use a scrub brush they make for them, but I just haven't gotten around to buying one yet. It says to use lard to season it, but I never have. I use organic olive oil once I'm done washing it and place it in the oven for storage. I prefer Lodge Cast Iron: http://www.lodgemfg.com/

Also, ceramic is good as well. Death by Rubber Ducky is a book about all kinds of things toxic in our environment. The authors are scientists and they said if you turn your telfon pans on high heat for ten mins and you have a bird in the kitchen, it will drop dead within that time! Ha! That was enough to get my mother in-law to switch to her first cast iron and she loves it. Also, I hear teflon is one toxin that doesnt leave the body ever! And I'm sure we have all seen a teflon pan at someone's house where the teflon is cut or flaking off and they still cook with it. So i think it's important to switch, but once you do you will wonder why we ever used a teflon pan when there is cast iron. Plus iron really makes food tasty, and you will never need to replace it as they tend to out live us. LOL =)

I went to the Lodge Cast Iron website. Which do you like best? They have three types: Seasoned, Signature, Enamel. Thanks!!!

I think its based on preference the I have the seasoned, but the handle does heat up so you have to be careful they have covers for the end you can buy I dont use that sometimes i will just use a kitchen hand towel to move it if i have to, so the signature ones sound good the stainless steel keeps them cool, and the enamel are good too I got alot of ceramic type baking dishes from a family member so I didnt purchase any of that but I did consider them, i just didnt need them at the time, you cant go wrong.. i think now if i were to purchase more i would definatley purchase the signature, and the enamel for baking.
