Valentine's Tradition: Heart Sugar Cookies

ceoMom 101, Jennifer

This is a simple, but wonderful and long lasting tradition. Every Valentine's Day, we make heart shaped sugar cookies with pink frosting. The kids can help make them (if you want) or they can help ice them. The cookies are fun to eat and they also make great Valentine's treats for friends and family.

This is our family secret recipe handed down by grandma:

Sugar Cookies
-- 3 1/4 cup flour
-- 1 teaspoon baking soda
-- 1 cup sugar
-- 1 egg
-- 1 teaspoon vanilla
-- 1/2 teaspoon salt
-- 1/2 cup butter
-- 1/2 cup sour cream

Sift together flour, soda and salt. In a large bowl combine remaining ingredients. Beat for two minutes. Add flour mixture and stir until well mixed. Roll out 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured board. Cut into desired shapes. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 5-6 minutes. May appear not done, but they are!

Makes 2 1/2 - 3 dozen cookies.

Icing
-- 1 cube butter, softened
-- 1 package of powered sugar
-- 1 cap full of vanilla
-- Add a little milk until creamy, but not runny
-- Add food coloring

This really has been such a fun tradition in our home! Happy Valentine's Day!
