I recently reconnected with a friend who told me how his 12-year old daughter was excelling playing the violin. Knowing that I want my kids to play musical instruments one day, I asked what age his daughter started playing. He said she was eight years old, but that she was considered late in getting started. Most kids start playing the violin at age six. This startled me as my daughter is already seven and I haven't even thought about it. So I did a little research on when to start kids on various musical instruments and here is a very quick guide to get you started in thinking ahead too:
Drums: 5 years and older
Piano: 6 years and older
Violin: 6 years and older
Cello: 6 years and older
Guitar: 6 years and older
Harp: 8 years and older
Flute: 10 years and older
Clarinet: 10 years and older
Trumpet: 10 years and older
Double Bass: 11 years and older
Saxophone: 12 years and older
