I have heard about this idea before, but my mom reminded me about it the other day so I thought I'd share. During dinner time, play "High, low." Going around the table each person tells what the "high" of their day was and what the "low" part of the day was for them.
This opens the lines of communication not only for fun stories, but it also allows everyone to talk about the hard things that they experience in a loving environment. Also, it shows the kids that everyone can have a bad day, but talking about it helps instead of bottling everything up.
