It might be too late for a pair of jeans that's fraying, but if you start to notice that your family's pants are beginning to wear thin, catch the problem then and iron a patch on the inside of the fabric. It'll help the clothes last a lot longer without having to put anything noticeable out where people can see it. A set of iron-on patches can be bought at most grocery stores, or at a fabric store; and you won't need to pay as much, because no one's going to see it anyway!
