Taking Outdoor Photos of Your Children

I'm not an expert or a professional photographer, but I've been around a few in my life to pick up a few tricks. Here's what I've learned:

-- Cloudy days are best, believe it or not. The clouds give great natural lighting.

-- Late afternoon is the best time to take photos. The lighting is the best. 5:00 - 6:00 PM during the summer is perfect.

-- Choose a nice setting. A rock, nice flowers, sitting on grass, etc. The more "natural," the nicer the background.

-- Zoom in, so the child is the main focal point. Crop in tight and don't get much of the background. This really makes the child pop without the distraction of too much background.

-- Angle your camera. This is the BIGGEST trick. Most people just take a regular shot, but if you angle your camera, your shot becomes way more interesting. You can angle a little or a lot. This makes it very artistic.

-- Use different angles. Sometimes it's fun to lay on the ground and shoot up. Or stand on your tippy toes and shoot down low.

-- Look for candid moments. Posed shots are great, but sometimes you catch a really great moment when you least expect it. Takes shots while your kids play using the same above techniques.

I hope these tips help!!!

Thanks for the tip! It's good to know I can get cute pics without taking a class and becoming a "professional."

These are great. I'm going to implement them next time we make the cute photo attempt. Thanks.
