Every Mother's Day, I give each of my children a copy of a favorite book to thank them for making me a mom. I write a special note to them in the cover, along with an explanation of why I chose that book.
It is fun for them to reread the notes throughout the year as they choose the books at bedtime. Notes often get lost or misplaced, but this way the are safely stored on the cover of the book. They will have the books for when they begin their own families.
(Hint: In the beginning I chose different books for different children. Now that I have four kids, I purchase the same one for each of them. This simplifies my record keeping and makes them feel special by owning their own individual copy.)
