Mother's Day - Making It Great!

Mother's Day has always been a hard day for me, because everything you read and hear just raises expectations of what moms "are" and "should be." To be honest, I really hated Mother's Day for a few years.

Then one year, I thought that I should turn the day around and celebrate being a mom, and not depend on others to make me feel good. So, I started to write each of my 3 children a letter on Mother's Day each year telling them what I love about them and what they have taught me about being a mom. They love it, and it really helps me celebrate what I do as a mother!

This is a great way of looking at things. I had to lower my expectations and realize that I'm still a mom on Mother's Day! Haha!

I have also found that no one is going to tell you that you are a great mother. You have to tell yourself this on a daily basis. This also means allowing yourself to have good "mom" days and bad "mom" days. But every morning to wake up willing to give it another shot and giving it your all. That's what really makes a great mom!
