Something for Everyone

Now that summer has arrived and the kids are out of school, there will be lots of time to work together as a family. Trying to involve everyone in the same activity is a challenge, but can be done using some creativity.

Read: The older kids can READ a good book to younger kids. Use your library and your librarian for great ideas of books that everyone will enjoy. Most libraries have a summer reading program that are fun for kids to participate in.

Cook: Another fun thing for everyone is BAKING. The older kids can help with the actual mixing and the younger ones can help with making cookie shapes or decorating the cookies.

Sew: Tying a quilt as a family to donate is fun and teaches service and sewing in the same project. Even small children can help by holding the pins or pulling the string through. It may take a little more patience on the mother's part, but everyone can help.

Gardening: It is fun to have everyone help with the garden and watch things grow. Everyone can help plant, weed, water and harvest the garden.

Art projects: There are lots of fun ideas at the library. Get craft idea books and choose some that would be fun for your family. Get creative and have fun with it. You can do projects with things from around the house or get things from the store. My kids really love to do crafts!

You can make anything "educational" if you put the right twist to it. Just use your imagination. Don't be afraid to get dirty and have fun!

These are great ideas! The park or a hike can also be a great adventure. Gathering rocks, leaves even bugs, huge fun! As the family grows so can the intesity of the hikes.

Heck, my 3 year old twins help measure. It can get a little messy but we all have fun. We actually did this yesterday and we all had a great time taking turns and helping each other. My 7 year old acted as if he was the pro. It was fun for me to watch!
