I had an issue with a babysitter once that made me extra cautious with new babysitters. Now when the sitter comes, I go over our house rules, which are:
-- No friends over (no boyfriends)
-- Limited cell phone and texting
-- Do not answer the front door
-- Don't worry about answering the phone unless it shows on the caller ID that it's me
-- Limited TV, no MTV, etc.
-- No computer
I also have a printout that I keep on my frig that says the rules and lists all the important information including:
-- Children's names, ages and birth dates
-- Allergies the children have or any personal info that a babysitter would need to know
-- Our cell phone numbers
-- Emergency numbers like grandma and grandpa
-- Our address and home phone in case they need to call 911 and provide our address
When the sitter comes, I make sure the printout is showing on the frig and I always point it out.
