Take Time Out

ceoMom 306, Connie

Someone once gave me great advice, however, it took me over 10 years before I listened and took the advice: "Don't be afraid to take time for yourself." Get a babysitter for a couple of hours or trade with a friend on a regular scheduled time (once a week, every other week, etc.). Just keep it scheduled and make yourself do it.

Don't run errands, don't clean your house, don't do anything for someone else. Take the time and do something for yourself. Read, take a walk, wander, pick up a new hobby, lunch with a friend, etc. You don't even have to leave your house if you want; just make sure your family does.

Be selfish for once and only take care of you for a minute. You will find that you actually make a better mom and wife if you do. After your break, you will find yourself rejuvenated and excited to spend time with your family.

This is soooo important and I think it took me only until recently to get this. I love taking time for myself now. I almost didn't even know how to, so I had to take baby steps. But now I can go for several hours, not feel guilty and have a grand ol' time!

I know. The first time I didn't know what to do or where to go so I drove to Barnes and Noble (actually the closest strip mall to my house). I, of coarse, went straight to the childrens section after I made myself leave (my time, my books) I just wandered for about 45 minutes picking things up. I think I then began to figure things out and bought a hazelnut steamer and started looking for books for me. When it was time to leave I actually felt warm and fuzzy inside (ok so that was the steamer), but I felt more like the person that I used to be and remembered that she was fun to hang around with.
