Put Your Laundry Hamper Where You'll Use It

ceoMom #101, Jennifer

I keep my laundry hamper right where we get dressed and undressed, which is in our walk-in closet. In our home before, where we didn't have a walk-in closet, I kept it between the bathroom and the dresser in our bedroom, where we tended to get dressed. I came to this conclusion through trial and error.

I figured out if we kept our laundry hamper close to where we got dressed and undressed, the chances of the dirty clothes getting into the hamper increased significantly. I have one of those husbands that likes to throw his clothes on the floor. If the hamper was too far from him, that's what he did. If the hamper was close to him, he'd throw them in.

So I say, put the hamper where you'll use it. If that is in the bedroom, put it in there. If it's in a closet, put it in there. Otherwise, the clothes might end up on the floor and that means more work for mom. Same goes for the kids. Put their hampers where they get dressed.

Good luck!

I agree, except I took it a step further since I too decided to do laundry every day instead of letting it pile up. Also this was to teach my kids how to do laundry..I put the hampers that have three diffferent sections in them into my laundry room. I labeled them whites ,darks, jeans, towels, colors, delicates and dry clean. So when my kids hampers ffilled up or I was sorting through the fams hampers I saw what load needed to be done that day by how full separate sections were. This also cut down on trips to the dry cleaners..because I never went until the section was full.

Good Luck!

I keep mine in my husband's walk in closet. I agree that it does cut down on the dirty clothes on the floor. It was originally in the bathroom next to the shower, but it was in the way. I also keep a basket in the laundry room for kitchen towels, rags, napkins, and other miscellaneous items so they aren't piled in the machine or on the floor.
