I don't have a child in school all day yet; however, I have been trying to eat healthier myself and so this tip might help you.
I keep a tray in the fridge with a variety of healthy snacks (whatever was on sale or looked good at the farmers market): carrots, cucumbers, celery, green peppers, apples slices, grapes, melon, etc along with some hummus, maybe a yogurt dip, low fat ranch.
When I feel the need to snack, I just pull out the tray, and I have a healthy snack already prepared. My 3-year old loves the snack tray too.
