Treasure Hunt for Any Age

ceoMom #431, Christy

I have done this with kids of all ages and they all love it. The older kids like to help the younger kids. I write clues on small pieces of paper. I also line the kids up by age and they each take a turn figuring out and finding the clue, but they all go together to find each one. The clues can be simple for little kids, i.e. look in the place where mommy gives you a bath. Depending on the number of kids I will write 10-20 clues. I also like to make them move around the house. For example each clue is in a different area or on a different floor of the house. The treasure is usually small squares of rice crispy treats or a small snack. It is great fun and a great way to wear out a busy group or small bored group of kids.

Thanks for the great idea! I was looking for a fun activity for my daughter's 4th birthday yesterday. Your "treasure hunt" was perfect! I ended up doing a "pearl hunt" since the theme was "Ariel - under the sea." It was the favorite activity at the party!

This is a fabulous idea. I was thinking it could even be a help for getting kids to help clean up..."go to the room where we read before bed and pick up 5 things to put them away" then maybe the next clue could be in th eplace where those things belong, like their bedroom. "Pick up the dirty clothes and put them where they belong" and the next clue is in the hamper or laundry room. That may not be quite as fun as just a regular treasure hunt, but it would sure be more fun than just telling the kids to do their chores! Then, of course, there would be a fun treat when they are all done.
That's what I like about ceomom, it gets me brainstorming!
