When a girl doesn't get invited to the big dance, my first thought is to have all the kids who didn't get asked, or perhaps just didn't want to go to a dance, get together for a party. I recall doing this with my friends... unfortunately I think we called it a "reject party," but I'm sure you could come up with a much better name for it than we did. "Ladies night" or "Fun Fans," or something like that.
The other idea of making it a big group dance is fabulous. Remind your daughter that sometimes at this age, boys don't like to dance, or are too shy to ask a girl out. Many kids may feel more comfortable going with a big group and just having fun, rather than feeling the pressures that go with an actual date. Fun times can be had by ALL, and no one has to feel awkward.
I also love the idea of making it a special Mother/Daughter night. What a wonderful opportunity to bond!
Any which way you do it, make it fun! Life can be a party! Teach your daughter to make the most of any situation. The idea is to have fun!
