When I buy French bread at the grocery store and leave it out on my counter overnight, it is sure to go hard. So I always take it out and wrap it in foil. BUT, by accident I found a quicker way. I was being lazy and left it in a plastic grocery bag. I quickly tucked it under the front of the French bread loaf and forgot about it. The next day, I thought: "uh oh - I forgot to wrap it in foil." But to my joyful surprise, it was as soft as ever. So now I know I just have to keep it in a plastic grocery bag and the bread will remain soft for days!
