When a child seems to struggle learning the ABC's, here are a few things to consider:
-- Have you had their eyes checked? Even if a little one appears to be seeing well, you never know unless you see an eye doctor. Their eyes may be used to seeing things this way and therefore may not show any signs of trouble. A lot of kids have learning issues simply because they can't see properly.
-- Make sure it's fun to learn the ABC's! If it ever becomes stressful on the child, they will stop and put up a fight. Just keep it fun, sing the ABC song, let your child act out the letter with their body on the floor, look for letters as your drive, etc.
-- Don't start with "A." Start with the first letter of their name. They will take immediate pride in this letter. Follow with easier letters like "O," "T" and "Z." Learning a few easy letters will build confidence in the child.
-- Repetition is key. Just keep going over the letter even if your child appears to be completely ignoring you. Print it out and put it on your wall and in the car where your child can see it. Just don't give up! Keep it fun and stress-free.
I hope these tips help!
