Teach ABC's Before Bed

ceoMom #304, Carrie

I've learned that a great time to teach kids that promotes retention is right before bed. Make it a habit to go through the ABC cards as one of the last things you do with your child before she goes to sleep. One theory is that this approach allows the subconscious to continue to process the information while sleeping.

It is a journey to discover the way your child learns best. Keep trying different methods -- you'll figure it out! (And she will too!)

This is so true! I tend to do a lot of teaching right before bedtime and never really thought about it. It very much works for us too. For one, they are in bed and willing to do anything to stay awake for five minutes longer. Sometimes I even crawl into bed too and we will go over things. That's how I taught my daughter to count from 11-20. It took 15 bedtimes in a row (no kidding), but she got it!
