My Kitchen Recycling System

ceoMom 101, Jennifer

The way I used to recycle drove me nuts! I would wash out the can of green beans, for example, and then stick the can above my sink counter. Once I had enough recyclable items, I would take a trip to my recycling can in the garage. It would be so annoying, because my sink counter would almost always have an item or two making it look cluttery and I found myself constantly running to the garage to visit the recycling can. I tried using a small recycling can in my house, but cereal boxes never fit, let alone milk containers, etc.

I fixed the problem by buying two matching large kitchen trash cans. I got the idea from a friend of mine who had one at her house. It was so big that I knew that’s what I needed to solve my recycling hot spot. I looked at several trash can varieties until I found one that was large enough for a cereal box, but also used regular tall kitchen sacks (the last thing I needed was to buy “special” trash bags). I now have my two cans – one for trash and one for recycling – in my kitchen. No more clutter, no more mess and no more running constantly to the garage. Hurray!
