For a child, a pre-teen, who may get bored just at the time you want some "me" time, here are a few ideas and thoughts from a Grandma.
1. If it is logistically possible, you may designate with your child's help an area outside his room, perhaps including a reading, building and painting site. It could include Legos, magnets, trains, cars, puzzles, the possibilities are endless. So when he gets bored you have an opportunity to engage him in play he can enjoy by himself.
2. You may ask your child why he is bored and see if you both can come up with a solution to make him happy and allowing you to enjoy some alone time. Communication always helps.
3. Invite your child to sit with you and watch a movie, read a book or have a conversation. Sometimes your alone time can be shared, but still enjoyable.
4. Surprise your child once in awhile. Go to the movies, roller or ice skating, bowling, miniature golf, etc. You'll be surprised how much fun you both can have.
5. Listen, embrace and cherish the time you do have together, for only tomorrow he will be grown.
Best of luck!
