Rule the World?
I'm at the gym today stretching out on a blue floor mat when I see a "gym" friend (you know, someone you only see at the gym). She waves and says: "I haven't see you in a while. What have you been up to?" My straightforward reply: "Getting fat." She chuckled and then looked away like she didn't know what to say. Finally she utters, "Oh, so you haven't been here in a while?"
No. Unfortunately not. And I have lots of excuses to back it up. I've got to get the kids to gymnastics (so I can sit and watch them for an hour), car-pool pickup (so I can wait in the car for 15 minutes), gotta make dinner (so I can eat, probably too much) and my personal favorite excuse: "I'm too tired." It all ends the same way: no gym, no exercise, no me.
I did give a good attempt earlier this week. I woke up at 6:00 AM and began to do an hour Yoga session via TV on my very own green Yoga mat. All was going well until about 15 minutes into it. I was in downward dog when all of sudden I thought I was going to throw up. I spent the next 10 minutes with my head between my legs. Not a morning person.
Today I felt pretty good at the gym. "At least I'm here," was all I could tell myself. And then I felt a surge inside me. A "you can do this and rule the world" type of surge. I love that feeling! If only I could bottle it up and take a swig when my three-year old throws a tantrum just as the water boils over and my husband calls out: "I'm home!"
But the surge was great and it'll get me to the gym tomorrow. And perhaps I'll see my gym buddy more often too. I swear I find myself when I exercise, sweat, run hard, hold downward dog an extra two breaths and cycle up a hill. Rule the world? Hell yeah!
