ceoMom Agenda

October 28, 2008
on the job training for the executive domestic

Hi ceoMom - Go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Chances are, you may be the only one who will. If you are like most moms, compliments won't come very often if at all. Fathers tend to be clueless and have no idea how nice it would be to hear the words: "You are a fantastic mother." Children really don't have the capacity yet to share their feelings, although sometimes they do surprise you with a little "I love you" every once in a while. Other women will most likely want to compete with you (unfortunate reality), so you won't be hearing much praise come that way. But hey, maybe you'll hear a few words of encouragment from your mother-in-law (or maybe not).

So who's left to tell you how wonderful you are? You, of course. There is absolutely nothing wrong with thinking you are a great mom. You are. That doesn't mean you can't pick up a new trick here and there and hone your skills to precision. It just means that you're giving it your all and you celebrate being a mom. It means you can take the good and the bad -- and you can focus on what is working for you and your kids. It means when you hit a road block, you don't turn around. You push forward, pedal to the metal.

You need to be your own best friend. Treat yourself like the greatest person in the whole world. That's exactly what you are.

Love,
ceoMom 101
