Hi ceoMoms -- I hope you are having a super week! I recently heard an interview with Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, the brain scientist who recovered from a massive stroke, and something she said caught my attention. After going through such a life-altering experience, she expressed her desire for all of us to take responsibility for the energy we give to each other and to the world. She explained the difference between two nurses: One who only performed her job duties and the other one who truly cared for her patients.

What a difference it makes! As mothers, we need to recognize how we are caring for our children. Are we simply taking care of their needs? Or are we truly connecting with our children enriching their lives and respecting them as individuals? There are two good indications you can use: 1. Do you speak to your children in kind, calm and controlled ways or do you yell at them or feel you are constantly having to reprimand them? 2. How often do you get down on their level, make eye contact and simply "listen" to what they want to tell you? Of course there are lots of other indications, but these two are strong ways to check yourself every day.

And why do we care about connecting with our children? Because isn't that what all this hard work is all about? It would be a shame if we woke up every day, did all the tough mom work that has to be done and then never really connected with our children. The hard work is simply the price you pay to not only watch your children grow, but to experience their growth. And how wonderful it is.
