Moms Don't Need to Grow Up

Hi ceoMom -- I have a little secret that I don't like to admit. It's one of those things that I've not only hid, but completely forgotten about, too. You know when you're a mom, you've got to act grown up. You can't go around doing the things you did when you were young and hip. It's time to be mature and act your age. And then of course there's all the responsibility, the sleepless nights and all the work to do. Who has time or energy to act young even if you wanted to?
Well, I've decided the older I get, the younger I'm becoming. I'm actually getting more immature, silly, able to laugh at myself and everything else "grown ups" aren't allowed to do. And I'm actually regressing in so many ways -- and it's just as fun as when I was young.
So here's my secret that I hate to admit: I love rap music. I know, I know.... I'm way too old to like rap music and I probably look completely geeky when I listen to the rap station. Thank goodness no one can hear me through my car windows, which are sealed shut. And yes, I'm not listening to any of the music with really bad language or anything. It's like moderate rap -- the beat, you know.
I had completely forgotten I even liked that kind of music. I know every Wiggles song by heart and I can sing the Spongebob Square Pants theme song all the way through. I've just been busy learning new stuff, that's all. So recently I was flipping through the radio in my car and found a rap song on that I used to love as a teenager. I knew those words too. Sorry, but it was way too much fun and the music sort of rekindled me.
So, as you look to find yourself again after all these years of mothering, try to remember back to what you used to love. Spin the CD and see what happens. Maybe it's just as much fun as before. And then maybe we could all hang out or chill or say words like "rad" and "totally awesome." Yeah, or maybe not.
Have a great mom day!
